Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Here are some of the frequently asked question for image resizing on SmallJPG.com.

What image formats can I resize?

You can upload JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF, Animated GIF and WebP files.

Is there a file size limit?

Yes — each image can be up to 30MB in size. This helps us keep the tool fast and reliable for everyone.

Do you store my images?

No — Your images are not stored permanently. They are processed temporarily and automatically deleted shortly after.

How long are my images kept?

Uploaded files are usually deleted from our servers roughly 60 minutes after processing.

Can I set a specific width and height?

Yes! You can enter a custom width and/or height. If you leave one blank, we’ll automatically calculate the other and keep the original aspect ratio.

Will the aspect ratio be preserved?

By default, yes. W maintain the original proportions of your image unless you toggle the switch and manually change both width and height.

What's the difference between resizing and cropping?

Resizing changes the dimensions (width/height) of the whole image.

Cropping cuts out a specific part of the image.

Will this Cropping reduce the file size too?

Sometimes! Smaller dimensions usually mean a smaller file size, but it's not guaranteed.

Will the resized image lose quality?

Our resizing tool aims to keep the best possible quality. If you reduce or increase the image by a lot, some quality loss may occur. If you reduce the size of the image the quality is mostly determined by the resolution of the output image. When there are not much pixels, resolution is lower. If you enlarge the image, our tool needs to create new pixels that do not exist, this also can create some artifacts.

Will resizing make my image blurry?

Not usually. But if you resize upwards (making the image larger than the original), it may look blurry or pixelated if you increase the size to much. For best clarity, resize down.

Can I resize multiple images at once?

Not yet, but we're working on a batch resize tool so if there is demand it will come! Stay tuned for updates.

Does it work on mobile or tablet?

Yes! The tool works in all mobile browsers, including Firefox and Safari. Just upload your image like you would on desktop from your Photo Albums or create a new picture.

What happens to the original image?

Your original image is not changed or saved. You download the resized version, and that’s it, nothing is overwritten.

Can I resize images for social media?

Yes! You can enter the exact pixel sizes you need for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc. (Check our future guide for recommended sizes!)
